COUNTDOWN TO ICO 98
International Congress on Obesity in Paris
 
The countdown has begun for ICO 98 - one of the largest ever assemblies of obesity specialists. 

The 8th International Congress on Obesity opens in Paris on August 29th and promises a stimulating week under the chairmanship of Prof Bernard Guy-Grand. 

The world forum for obesity experts is held every four years and this year more than 2,000 specialists and researchers from 47 countries will be attending and more than 1,000 scientific contributions are expected. 

ICO will hear the latest advances in research across a range of fields from genetics, metabolism, dietary behaviour, clinical evaluation, treatment 
and prevention. 

In addition Prof Philip James will speak at a plenary session about the work of the IOTF. 

There will be an IOTF information stand and it is expected that the IOTF website will be demonstrated to delegates. 

 
 

There are also six satellite symposia with specialist themes: 
  • molecular and genetic factors 
  • physical activity 
  • prevention 
  • endocrinology 
  • children
  • surgery
The 8th Congress is chaired by Prof Bernard Guy-Grand (Hotel-Dieu, Paris) while Professor Gerard Ailhaud (CNRS, Nice) will chair the International Scientific Committee. 

The organizing committee consists of Prof Arnaud Basdevant (Hotel-Dieu, Paris), Mr Max Lafontan (Director of Research, INSERM, Toulouse), Dr Daniel Ricquier (Director of Research CNRS, Meudon) and Prof Stephan Rössner (Karolinska Institute, Stockholm).
