Denmark established a National Obesity Task Force group during 1998. The Association is working with the Danish government which has recognized obesity as an important area for future prevention. The Danish Food Agency, the Cancer Research Institute and the Danish Heart Foundation have been involved in a number of diet campaigns in recent years and the DSAF is working with the Diabetes Association and the Danish Heart Foundation on improved recognition of the health risks of overweight and obesity. Obesity rates have risen substantially
in Denmark over a decade. Latest available figures show the proportion
of the population with BMI>30 has risen from 10-13% in men and 9-11 % in
women between 1983 and 1993.
