The Argentinian Society for Obesity
and Eating Disorders was created in 1975 and it has been working continuously
since then. It has 400 members and local chapters in several provinces.
It has a headquarters with a members' library.
SAOTA is affiliated with the Argentinian
Medical Association(AMA) which provides re-certification of specialization
on Nutrition. A two-year postgraduate course on obesity started in 1992
and two other postgraduate courses are held each year on Eating Behaviour
and on Childhood and Adolescent Obesity.

Monthly Scientific Meetings, given in Buenos
Aires at the AMA

Hot topics on Obesity and Eating Disorders
with prestigious local or foreign visitors attract between 50 to 300 participants

Other two to three day meetings are arranged
in collaboration with the local chapters in different cities troughout
the country at specified times of the year

The Argentinian Congress on Obesity and Eating
Disorders in organized every two years. Last year's event in Buenos Aires
attracted nearly one thousand delegates
Since 1990 the Society has published
the journal "OBESIDAD", which was adopted unanimously as the official journal
for the Latin American Societies. Four issues each year reach 2500 members,
free of charge.
